Billy Joe King, 80, of Ryland Heights, KY, passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Edgewood. He was born March 17, 1945, in Cincinnati, OH, to the late William McKinley King and Nellie Jane Wynn King.
A retired machinist and master storyteller, Billy was as handy and creative as they come. He had a tool for fixing everything. And whether through his handiwork, his woodworking, or his love for cutting his lawn, his hands were never idle and his spirit was always generous. He devoted 50 years of his skills and knowledge to machining operations at Dynamic Industries.
Family was everything to Billy. As one of 9, he loved spending time with his large family, despite his rough disguise and ornery personality. Ever the teaser and troublemaker, if "Uncle Bill" had a snarky remark for you, you knew you were loved. Affectionately referred to as "Poppy," one of his favorite pastimes was doting on his grandbabies.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Nellie King; brother Henry King; and sisters Rhonda (David) Grimes and Sheila (Denny) Jones.
He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Bernice Lou King; son, Brian Schultz; daughter-in-law, Deemi Schultz; three grandchildren, Elowyn, McKellen and Ferguson; brother, Mark (Teresa) King; sisters, Beverly (Vernon) Ball, Gloria (Eddie) Anderson, Liz Crowe, and Kristi (George) Armstrong; along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM Monday, April 21, 2025, at the Montana Avenue Church of the Nazarene, 2559 Montana Ave, Cincinnati, where visitation will be held prior from 9-11 AM. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
