His disciples said, “Show us the place where you are, because we need to look for it.”
He said to them, “Anyone who has ears to hear should hear! Light exists within a person of light, and they light up the whole world. If they don’t shine, there’s darkness.” Gospel of Thomas
When my daughter, Cheyenne, arrived by cesarean section nearly 33 years ago, the obstetrician exclaimed, “This baby is chilling with her little hands behind her head.” And so began Cheyenne’s journey here on Earth. Maybe she wasn’t ready to leave the safety of the womb, but once out, she was determined to find wonder and joy in every step.
Desire Lines
“Do what you desire before your heart expires,” said Cheyenne, at 8 years old.
When Cheyenne turned 16, she marched into a local store of an American multinational sportswear and footwear retailer. She told the manager she’d like to work there.
She was a “shoe” connoisseur and wanted to sell.
The manager said, “I’m not hiring and won’t be anytime soon.” “OK,” Cheyenne said and walked out of the store. Cheyenne returned every week, and upon one visit, the manager said, “Yes.” Cheyenne began working that day. When asked how Cheyenne knew she’d have a career with that retail sportswear store, she answered, “I had Faith.”
Cheyenne had no retail experience, no connections, nothing that could be considered a “foot in the door.” However, she had Faith in herself, and with that Faith, she committed to working at that retail footwear store, and she did.
FAITH IS COMMITMENT TO ONESELF, SHOWING UP AND BEING PRESENT, AND BEING READY TO WORK IN THE FACE OF FEAR, DOUBT, AND EXPECTATION.
In her dossier, there was no resume. Cheyenne had the only thing she needed: Faith in herself and her abilities. Two years after being on the job, the University of Cincinnati accepted Cheyenne into their baccalaureate program. It was the same year that a new retail sportswear and footwear shop opened up a new location near her college campus. Cheyenne started school and work without missing a beat; all it took was a little faith.
Cheyenne had the following affirmation on her phone wallpaper:
“I’m always exactly where I need to be to make my dreams come true. I’m in the timeline of my highest good. My deepest desire and my ultimate fulfillment.”
Cheyenne, a lifelong learner focused on Psychology, demonstrated her educational attainment by helping others prominently show up in their own lives, whether at work, school, or play.
Cheyenne loved deeply and shone a light on everyone and everywhere she went. She also revealed a fiery side when she thought she was right about her chosen approach to an obstacle. Cheyenne would dig her heels in until you saw her perspective. She didn’t need you to agree—she just wanted to ensure you heard her.
Cheyenne packed a lot of living into her 32 years on Earth. She didn’t let life happen to her; Cheyenne engaged in life as an active participant at every turn, right up to her last-willed breath. Cheyenne wrestled all night but transcended her earthly presence by the morning of October 17, 2024. But we know, like Jacob, she received blessings from The Highest. If you knew Cheyenne, you know she didn’t take “no” as an answer.
LIVE, LAUGH, LOVE
Cheyenne predeceased her mother, father, three sisters, brother, grandmother, uncle, grand-uncle, grand-aunt, cousins, furry nephews, her soul family, including her work family, chosen sisters and brothers, a soul mother, and her beloved furry sons, American Pit Bull Terrier, Rambo, and Dobermann Pinscher, Mazi. Let us not say “farewell until we meet again” to Cheyenne Tyler Clark, for she remains in the hearts of all who loved her.
“Let our circle be unbroken.”
