Connie L. Underwood (O’Connell), 81, born in Cincinnati, OH on Sunday, September 5,1943, died on Friday, January 17, 2025, at her home in Ludlow, KY surrounded by loved ones. Connie was a woman whose life was defined by love, faith, and a fierce determination to live life to the fullest.
As a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother, Connie's family was the center of her world and her biggest accomplishment. She leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love, wisdom, and strength, which will continue to guide and inspire her family for generations to come.
As a child, Connie was a swimmer for Coca Cola where she harbored a dream to swim the English Channel, a goal that symbolized her adventurous spirit and pursuit of challenges. She worked as a cocktail waitress at Fryer Tucks Supper Club and K.D. Lamp Company. Her cooking and baking were legendary - homemade cakes and candies that were so melt-in-your-mouth-delicious, they became a cherished tradition for her family and friends.
She was raised in Catholic faith and honored her Lord. Connie was a fan of the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame and was a Cheesehead for the Green Bay Packers. Her husband was an over the road truck driver and a true teamster for Local 100. Connie was also involved in the Teamsters Local 100 Ladies Auxiliary where she learned to paint and participated in a lot of crafts. She was a collector of all sorts of beautiful figurines and trinkets.
Connie never knew a stranger and was loved by all. She will truly be missed.
Connie is survived by her husband of 67 years, Joseph E. Underwood, Sr.; her children: Tonia (John) McQueary, Joseph E. (Betty) Underwood II, Shannon (Carl) Koehler-Clifton, and Joseph E. (Nakai) Underwood III; her grandchildren: Mark (Felisha), Travis (Brandi), Greg (Jessica), Constance (Dennis), Bradley (LeeAnn), Britney (Stephen), Andrew (Cassie), Kirsten (Justis), Tyler, Joey and Jacob; her great-grandchildren: Destiny (Logan), Jade (Christian), Mark (Brooklyn), Matthew (Haley), Robbie (Hannah), Layce (Elijah), Hailey, Liam, Jackson, Espen, Brooks, Annabelle, Cameron, Cailyn, Dalton, Layla and Presley; and great-great-grandchildren: Rowan and Maverick with 1 on the way; her sisters: Ann (Wayne) Turner, Patricia (Bill) Langdon, Linda (Gary) Burbage, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Anna Dorothy O’Connell; her father, John L. O’Connell; her sisters, Kathleen F. Vogel and Michelle S. Keplinger; her 2 beautiful children, Gregory S. Underwood and Kimberly A. Underwood.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. on Monday, January 27, 2025, at Floral Hills Funeral Home, 5336 Old Taylor Mill Rd., Taylor Mill, KY, with Connie's funeral service to follow at 1:00 P.M.. Connie will be laid to rest in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
