Elman “Sugar” McNeal was born in Yreka, California, to George and Betty McNeal. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Daryl “Buzzy” McNeal. He is survived by his brother George; sisters Wilverna, Patricia, and Nadine; his children Elman Jr, Christopher, Stephen and Jacob; his partner Teresa; his grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces who will carry his memory forward. Elman graduated from Etna High School and went on to serve in the Navy, a chapter of his life that shaped his strong sense of duty. After his time in the Navy, he spent many years in the logging industry, where he transitioned from cutting down trees to protecting them through his work with the Forest Service-a testament to his adaptability and care for the world around him. A man of many passions, Elman was proud of his membership with the Karuk Native American Tribe and loved nothing more than hitting the golf course, where his warm spirit shone through in every swing and conversation. Alongside Teresa, his partner in life and adventure, he traveled far and wide, delighting in the discovery of new places and the stories they held. Elman had a gift for connection-he was friendly with everyone, striking up conversations with strangers as easily as with old friends, leaving a trail of smiles wherever he went. Even after moving to Kentucky, Elman stayed tethered to the many, many friends he’d made over the years, nurturing those bonds with the same care he gave to everything he loved. To know Elman was to be touched by his kindness and charm-if you were lucky enough to meet him, you’d count yourself blessed. He was an amazing person, and his absence will be deeply felt. We will miss and love him always. There will be a visitation from 5-7 PM Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Floral Hills Funeral Home, Chapel B.
