Gary John Opiela

Gary John Opiela, 69, of Florence, Kentucky passed away on Sunday September 13, 2026 surrounded by loved ones. He was born on June 16, 1957 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late John and Diana Opiela. In addition to his parents, Gary is also preceded in death by his younger brother Kenneth Opiela.

Gary worked as a machinist at Mubea before retiring. He enjoyed the simple things in life.. family, friends and football. He enjoyed meeting his friends at the local pub to watch the Steelers , especially when they were playing the Bengals. One thing about Gary, he never met a stranger. He could talk to anyone about anything anytime. He had a raw charisma about him that people were just drawn to always had a smile on his face that would light up a room. But, more than anything, Gary loved being a Pap Pap. His grandchildren brought his inner child out; whether it was the endless Nerf gun battles, playing spaceship in the yard, or giving them a quick pinch just to aggravate them. Whatever they wanted, he did it. His grandchildren were the loves of his life.

Gary is survived by his wife, Jackie. His children Ian (Jackie W.) Opiela ,Taryn (Jamie) Opiela-Turner, Amber (Josiah) Foutch. His beloved grandchildren, Kylie, Paisley, Hailey and Lane. He leaves behind many family members and loved ones who will cherish the memories shared with him.

Gary will be remembered for his love of his family, his smile, his quick-witted humor and his love and pride for his team, the Pittsburgh Steelers. His presence will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered and impossible to replace.

Please join us on Friday, September 18, at Floral Hills Funeral Home, Chapel A, 5336 Old Taylor Mill Rd, Taylor Mill, KY 41015 where the Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. with the service beginning at 2:30 p.m. with Harold Gambrell officiating. There will be a private interment in the Mausoleum at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
