James Howard Cunningham, age 90, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2026 in the good care of the staff at Bridgeway Pointe. Born November 26, 1935 to Cecilia and Howard Cunningham, he is preceded in passing by his parents. James is also preceded in death by his dear wife, Jill Cunningham; the mother of his children, Joan Cunningham; and his sister, Marion Guethlein (Victor Sr.).
Those who are left to mourn James' passing are his daughters, Christine Foley (Christopher) and Sandra Cappel; his step-children, Donna Remley (Lisa) and Darren Remley; his sister, Karen Middendorf; eight grandchildren, Beth Cappel Hermann (Marc), Jamie Cappel, Sam Cappel, Ben Cappel, Grace Cappel, Katie Foley, Josie Foley, and Gaby Foley; one great-grandchild, Claire Hermann; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
James will be remembered as a devoted husband, proud Army veteran, loving father, cherished grandfather, and loyal friend. One of his greatest joys was simply being with his beloved wife, Jill, whether they were visiting faraway places or taking a trip to the store to do some shopping.
A longtime member of the 5 Seasons Tennis Club, he loved tennis, golf, bingo and, in his younger years, bowling. James was known for his quick wit and signature dry sense of humor that never failed to bring smiles to those around him.
His family was the center of his world. He would do anything for his daughters, and, as his family grew, nothing brought him more happiness than spending time with his grandchildren, especially when they came to visit. He welcomed everyone with an open heart and became a father figure to many through his quiet strength, steady presence, and unconditional love. Though he will be deeply missed, the kindness he shared, the laughter he inspired, and the love he gave so freely will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
Funeral services will take place at Floral Hills Funeral Home, Chapel A Friday, July 31, 2026. Visitation is scheduled to begin at 11:00 AM, the funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM. Entombment will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
Floral Hills is honored to serve the family.
