Janice Sue Smith, 79, of Crittenden, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Florence.
She was born on August 8, 1946, in Covington, the daughter of the late Buford Orlander Kennedy, Jr. and Ona Mae Ashcraft Fischer. She was also blessed by the love and guidance of Clifford Fischer and Madeline Kennedy.
Janice dedicated her life to caring for others as a nurse. Throughout her career, she served at the former Booth Hospital, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Florence, at Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati and with Boone County Schools. Her compassion and commitment left a lasting impact on all those she cared for.
A devoted member of Bullittsburg Baptist Church in Petersburg, Kentucky, Janice found great joy in her faith, her church family, and most especially in her own family and friends, who were the center of her life.
She is survived by her loving husband, James Darrell Smith; her daughter, Jennifer Marie Pope (Jeff); her son, James Darrell Smith, Jr. (Susan); her brother, Mike Kennedy (Mary); her sister, Donna Wagner (Roger); five cherished grandchildren, Jessica Davis (Taylor), Jared Pope (Elizabeth), Amber Moore (Aaron), Corey Smith, and Kayla Hahn (Chris); and four beloved great-grandchildren, Judson Moore, Bentley Hahn, Waylon Davis, and Bennett Davis.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Sherry Lynn Smith, and her brother, Dale Kennedy.
Janice will be remembered for her kindness, strength, unwavering faith, and the deep love she shared with her family and all who knew her. Her legacy of compassion and devotion will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 1,2026 at Floral Hills Funeral Home, Chapel A from 11:00-1:00. The Service will begin at 1:00 PM with Pastor Dave Panella officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
