Joanie was born on May 20, 1943, in Kona, Kentucky, to John Henry Lewis and Dee Newsome. She passed away peacefully at home on May 13, 2025, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family.

Joanie was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She is survived by her beloved children: Brian, Trish, Burt, and Niecy. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Christina (Tim), Steven (Jessica), Andrew (Erin), Kathleen, and Valerie (Steve), and her treasured great-grandchildren: Colton, Emily, Abrianna, Kaylin, Alyssa, Layah, Ariah, Andrew Jr., and Zadie. She is also survived by her brothers, Tony and Jack Lewis and Sister, Tammy Bennett.

Joanie's greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was her family. To everyone who knew her, she was simply “Oma.” She had a gift for making people feel welcome, loved, and at home—she never met a stranger. Oma’s warmth was matched by her honesty and kindness.

She found joy in the simplest pleasures: sipping a cold Dr Pepper, tending to her flowers, sitting on the front porch, and watching hummingbirds. Whether through dancing, cooking, or crocheting, she shared her love in everything she did and would teach anyone willing. Oma was the heart of every holiday. She was endlessly generous—whether it was playing school, baking her homemade biscuits and gravy or banana bread, or braiding hair with gentle hands.She also had a knack for fitting suits and could assemble the perfect look, find your color, and help you feel your very best. Oma’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and quiet strength. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
