Karen Sue Claridy

January 25, 1958 — February 6, 2025

Walton

Karen Sue Claridy, 67, of Walton, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2025, at the Boonespring Transitional Care Center.

Karen was born on January 25, 1958, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Warren R. Spencer and Gertrude C. Sayers Spencer. She was preceded in death by both of her parents, her husband, John F. Claridy, Jr., and her sister, Lynda K. Spencer.

As the eldest of three siblings, Karen embodied the quintessential big sister role. Growing up in a military household, she experienced numerous relocations with her family, ultimately finding a true sense of home in Lexington. Karen graduated from Tates Creek High School and was a vibrant member of Porter Memorial Baptist Church, participating actively in the church youth group and choir.

Karen dedicated her professional life to the legal field, most recently serving as a Paralegal with the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office. Her remarkable work ethic and personality earned her widespread respect and admiration among her colleagues.

Beyond her career, Karen cherished life's simple pleasures. She loved spending time at the beach, finding tranquility and happiness in the sound of the waves. Her adventurous spirit led her to enjoy cruises and the beauty of the open seas. Evenings out with her girlfriends, filled with laughter and camaraderie, were among her most treasured pastimes.

Karen's warm smile and kind words left an indelible impression on everyone she met. She deeply valued her friendships, treating each friend as family. Her distinctive laugh was one of her most memorable traits.

Karen's greatest accomplishment was her children. She instilled in them the importance of family, a value that was passed down to her grandchildren. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was a devoted member of Paint Lick Baptist for many years.

Karen is survived by her brother, John Spencer; daughter, Tamara “Tami” (Jeffrey) Mason; son, Matthew Stevenson; grandchildren, Caitlin (Gilbert), Jeremiah (Kayla), Alayah, Elijah (Bella), Austin, Danny, and Hannah; and 3 great-grandchildren. The love and light she brought into the lives of her family and friends will forever be remembered.
