Lola Ann Cheeks, age 81, of Jonesville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, in Dry Ridge, Kentucky. Born on September 9, 1944, in Laurel County, Kentucky, she was the beloved daughter of the late Laddle Cottongim and Sybil G. Owens Browning.
Lola was a hardworking and devoted woman who dedicated many years of her life to serving others as a cashier at Wal-Mart, where she was known for her kindness, friendly smile, and genuine care for everyone she met. Beyond her work, Lola was a woman of strong faith and a longtime, faithful member of Violet Ridge Church of Christ, where she found joy in worship, fellowship, and serving her church family.
Family was the heart of Lola’s life. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose warmth, generosity, and quiet strength touched everyone who knew her. She cherished time spent with her family and leaves behind countless memories of love, laughter, and guidance that will be treasured forever.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Shelby Cheeks; her children, April Hutchinson (Jerry), Melissa Grimes, Stepchildren: Bill Grady, Gale Grady, Melissa Grady; her stepdaughter, Cassandra Cheeks-Hall (Leroy); her brother, Virgil Cottongim; her sister, Velvet Browning; her grandchildren, Casey Hucker (Rebecca), Brittany Damrell (Kyler), and Brandon Grimes (Jessica); and six beloved great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on January 23, 2026, at Violet Ridge Church of Christ in Crittenden, Kentucky, with Tommy Simpson officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the church prior to the service. Burial will follow at the VA Cemetery in Williamstown, Kentucky.
Lola’s legacy of love, faith, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Though she will be deeply missed, her family takes comfort in knowing that her life was a blessing and her memory will remain forever.
